Communist-Fi

I don’t agree to everything communist, but socialists, liberal thinkers… have ideas that resonate with my own. Things as ‘they should be’ are being described best by this line of political thought and I usually agree. I find myself steering to the left when a complicated issue of social justice is interesting enough.

And make no mistake about it: acquiring a wireless router is a political debate all by itself. I’m the recent owner of such a communist device: I have the power to distribute internet access to those in need and the only issues I have with it are: how? and how much do they need?

Not ‘Why?’

I’ve come across a tutorial for having fun with those who are ‘stealing’ internet. Of course they are, but some might just be needing it, like I did last week. No IM, no Facebook, no blog, no rss feeds while no TV does real damage to someone being used to all this stuff - virtually all my entertainment is www related and I can’t change that over night for what I hope is just temporary.

I want to follow the steps in that tutorial to share a small portion of bandwith with the people in my building. Sort of like a free emergency line to surf on when in need. But I don’t know how to split my wireless into a pasword protected trusted group and a non-trusted group. Help??
